Meet my Best Friend

Doing something a little different on the blog today. Many of you either know me personally or follow my “mom-stagram” and know my little family is the blog. Jonas, Bristol and Brandon are the main attraction around here with my occasional “stream of consciousness” blog. But today I’d love to do something very special and introduce my best friend of about 12 years, Krystan. She is my person , she is my “go to” for advise and venting, and she is definitely one of my favorite people. She also is a talented writer and has been on and off again blogging for some time now. (Check out her blog: HERE) Life has brought her some wonderful changes, and unfortunately for me 😝,she has moved 13,000 miles away, all the way to TX. Her and I are always finding creative ways to make the distance feel shorter, by video messaging, snapchat, random Facebook tags and constant texting. (Even though I am thee worst at texting back) Recently we decided, since we both have blogs and enjoy writing, to start a joint monthly blog. One blog a month where we will post about the same subject but from each of our own perspectives. I hope you will join us and enjoy reading our posts. To start off, today’s blog is an introduction, where we interview each other. So here is my Krys, and her answers to our BFF interview.

Btw, this is my favorite photo of her ❤

Krystan, what embarrasses you the most and/or what’s been your most embarrassing moment?

KRYS: To be honest, I don’t get embarrassed easy. I’m clumsy and goofy and an overall klutz, so I’ve learned to just go with the flow. My most embarrassing moment though was one night when I was sleeping over at my bestie’s, Hannah, house. I was sleeping on the couch and, apparently, I was talking or mumbling. Her husband, Brandon, had come upstairs to check on her youngest child and heard me mumbling. He walked over to see if I was awake or what the hooey I was doing. He leaned over the couch to look at me and, being a light sleeper, I woke up. For whatever reason, in my groggy state, I thought Brandon was actually Jonas, Hannah’s son. I reached up and stroked his cheek with my hand. He drew back and I suddenly realized “Oh crud! That’s not Jonas!” I was so, so embarrassed, and still am when I think back to it!

Who do you look up to the most, and what qualities do you love about that person?

KRYS: This question is so difficult for me, as there are so many people I look up to. I’ll narrow it down as much as I can. The first person I look up to is my bestie, Hannah Ashley. There is a lot she’s gone through, but she never lets it keep her down…she pushes through with a smile on her face. The second is my sister, Ralynn Hann. She is who she is and if you don’t like her, it’s your loss…she’s taught me to love myself and accept myself and just be me! The last person is my grandmother, Shirley Peoples. She gives and gives and gives, until she’s threadbare and tired, then she gives some more. She’s handicapped (knee and back problems), but she doesn’t let that stop her, especially when it comes to church. She’s probably the hardest worker and most dedicated saint of God I know.

What would be your perfect day? Plan it out from breakfast to bedtime

KRYS: First would be no breakfast…my perfect day would be sleeping in as late as I can! Lol. I am NOT  a morning person! I would then spend the day reading to my leisure, sipping coffee (black, of course), eating cookies (and not gaining any weight from said cookies! Lol) and ending with game night with all my loved ones, snuggling my sweet nieces and godchildren.

What’s your biggest fear?

KRYS:I’ve struggled for a long time. I just want to make it on my own…have my own car, my own job, my own little apartment, and my own pet. I want independence. So many people have told me I can’t do that, I can’t live on my own, can’t support myself. I’m trying so hard, but my biggest fear is that I’ll never be able to do that…that I’ll always have to depend on others.

How do you like to be comforted when you’re sad or upset?

KRYS: It’s funny. I’m a very emotional person, and a hugger at that. When I’m upset though, I want to be left alone. I want to cry or get mad and punch my pillow, cry and scream, and pray, all alone. Then I want to call up Hannah or Ralynn and vent vent vent. Lol.

What’s your favorite memory?

KRYS: This is another difficult one. I have so many wonderful memories! Probably my favorite is the day my sister got married. She married an absolutely wonderful man who treats her like a queen. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding, which was beautiful. It was a rustic theme, with burlap and lace and wood. When my grandfather, all dressed up in his navy blues, walked her down the aisle, I’m not going to lie…I plain out ugly cried! I was so happy for her.

What’s your favorite thing you own?

KRYS: My books, for sure! I don’t have many, but I’m starting to collect a few, including books by Francine Rivers, and the “House of Winslow” series by Gilbert Morris. There’s just nothing like a good, good book!

Who was the last person who made you cry and why?

KRYS: My pastor’s son, Kendall Wood. He preached Wednesday night about “The blessing of being a servant.” He had us sing “Thank you for Giving to the Lord” by Ray Boltz and it really, really touched me. That’s all I want in this life, is to make a real difference in someone’s life.

Where do you hope to be 5/10/15 years from now?

KRYS: 5 years- remarried with at least one child, 10 years-a housewife homeschooling my house full of kids and working part-time at my own bookstore, 15 years-Gah, I’ll be so old! Lol. Probably in the same place as the 10 years.

If money were no object, what would you buy?

KRYS: This is easy…I’d buy round trip plane tickets for all my family and pay for the hotel rooms. It’s difficult for my grandparents to travel, but they want to see all our loved ones so bad. I don’t think some of them understand the difficulty of traveling when you’re elderly, and the others simply don’t have the means to travel, so someone paying all expenses might be the only way to get them here.

When have you felt the most proud?

KRYS: Hmm. Probably when my brother joined the Air Force. We come from a very, very military family, and I can’t think of a better career for my brother to be in!

When have you felt the most challenged?

KRYS: When I taught Preschool, especially teaching the two-year old classes. Trying to teach and entertain 20+ kids every day, sometimes with little to no help, is very challenging. Throw in potty training, some demanding parents, some accusing parents, and little pay and appreciation for all your hard work…yes, it was very challenging…but extremely rewarding. I absolutely loved it!

Do you have any regrets? If so, what are they?

KRYS: My whole teenage years. I was so awkward, and looking back I said and did some very, very embarrassing things. Why anyone who knew me then still talks to me, I’ll never know! Lol.

When was the moment in your life you laughed the hardest?

KRYS: Probably the night I slept over at Hannah’s house and we decided to stay up all night long. We tried vlogging on a website and answering questions from random people. Some of the things these people asked us to do were absolutely ridiculous. We were beyond exhausted and absolutely everything was hilarious. We laughed so hard at some of the stupidest things, my stomach was killing me and I couldn’t breathe!

Which celeb would you want as your other BFF and why?

KRYS: I don’t really give a hooey about any celebrity, as I know not once single celebrity gives a hooey about me, so this question is very difficult. Hmm…maybe Francine Rivers, to get writing tips from. I don’t know. Lol.

What did you dream about last night?

KRYS: It was actually bizarre. I had a dream that I was getting married. A huge Rottweiler was my ring bearer, and my groom was dressed up in a chicken suit, so I couldn’t see who he was. My bridesmaids were all people I don’t know, and were wearing animal costumes, and my gown was white, puffy, and had cow spots all over.

Which family member are you closest to?

KRYS: This would be a tie between my sister and my grandmother. Both have been there for me and have helped me through some very difficult times. I don’t know where I’d be without either.

What do you do when no one else is around?

KRYS: I turn my favorite Disney songs on and sing with a passion and dance and just be silly. I only do this when I’m completely alone, as I don’t fancy strait jackets and padded rooms.

Where do you want to travel?

KRYS: Australia, Greece, and California. Australia and the aborigines are fascinating (and those accents!!!!!), I would LOVE to have authentic Greek food IN beautiful Greece, and I was born in California, but don’t remember it as we left before I was a year old.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

KRYS: I’m very, very emotional. I try to hide it and keep it to myself, but I have spent many a night crying over something so silly…for example, once I was in a waiting room and a Gerber commercial came on the T.V. It showed all these adorable babies and their parents loving on them and I lost it. All I’ve ever wanted is to be a mom, and it seems so far away, so unattainable. When my GPop passed, I comforted my little cousin, then went to the garage and cried. Another cousin came out and caught me and told me not to cry alone.
